Google Maps Platform Directions API (Legacy) removal

Deprecated, no dateSubscribe to Google Maps PlatformShare

Google Maps Platform deprecated GET /maps/api/directions/* without giving a shutdown date yet.

Calls it hits

  • GET /maps/api/directions/*

What to use instead of these calls

Migrate to the Routes API (computeRoutes on routes.googleapis.com).

The Routes API is a separate API to enable on the Cloud project, with its own SKUs and pricing, and needs the X-Goog-FieldMask header, so the team decides when and how to move.

In Google Maps Platform's words

As of October 2026, Directions API (Legacy) can no longer be enabled for new Google Cloud projects. Existing projects remain fully supported.
