Calls to the model gemini-embedding-2-preview stopped working on August 10, 2026.

Google retired the model gemini-embedding-2-preview on August 10, 2026. Any calls using this model fail since that shutdown date.

## The error Gemini API returns once gemini-embedding-2-preview is gone

Once it is closed to new API keys: HTTP 404

## What to use instead

Move to the recommended replacement gemini-embedding-2. Embeddings from another model are not comparable, so all stored vectors must be recomputed with the new model.
